How many geo-loc bak files of 436mb does one need in the path
Interspire Email Marketer\admin\addons\geostats\install\backup\
?

Do they come to exist if one disables geostats and then reenables them or why does the system create them?

If one wants to delete some of them, does it matter which to keep, perhaps the latest (they are all same size and content (bit compared))?

You might be runing an old GEO addon version. As for december 2014 I recall it to be the last version to have, use and update a CSV file. Then newer version seems to use online file hosted somewhere on Maborak's server. Maybe those Backups files of over 400MB are just the remains of older versions.

You should make a real backup of those files, as we at this point don't know if this project will go on. I'm refering to the feeling that some users are having due to the long term absences of the owner. So better start to making backups of all addons. Just in case...

My GeoStat is v2.7, just as the geostats-latest.zip I can download.
Perhaps the files are there from previous installs. For safety, I
just iron over the new stuff and keep the old there unless there is
good reason to remove it.

I wonder if these backups are created if you enable and disable it.

The versions and sizes of geostats-latest.zip
20140908 = 118766575b
20150325 = 1538025b
20150420 = 1543893b
20150526 = 1543911b

Yes, backups of everything are important, agreed. Especially if & when
it works ;) The Interspire Email Marketer folder and the dbf dump. Anything else?
